Hadley's First Day

Well, my "big gull" started KDO today. We hyped it up a lot...maybe too much. She sort of freaked out when I dropped her off. Max had talked about it a lot with her. He even told her that he bet she would make a lot of new friends...so sweet. In the last couple of days, she would say "no cool, no cool" when we would talk about it. She started today off with guarded excitement that turned to dread after we dropped Max off at school. I had to struggle to get her into the car to go. Once we got there, she cautiously walked in without major incident. The heartbreaking scene happened when we got to her classroom. She might have been okay if there hadn't been other kids' cries echoing down the hallway. Her teacher came to meet her at the door, and Hadley grabbed me around the neck and started sobbing. Her cries quickly turned into screams of "my Mommy, no cool, no cool" as her teacher pried her off of me. She was still crying when I left, so I spent the next 5 hours worried about her. My head was also trying to wrap around the fact that my baby girl is old enough to go to 'school'...how has 2 years gone by so quickly?!

When I picked her up, her teacher said she had gotten over it pretty quickly and went on to have a great day. Hadley said she played with her friends, colored, sang, enjoyed lunch and played outside (well, not so much 'said' as nodded when I asked). When we picked Max up, we went for ice cream to celebrate Hadley's successful first day.

The kids both crashed early. Max fell asleep on the couch at 7:30, and Hadley fell asleep about 2 pages into her book. Back to school is so nice.:)
